Adult ADHD Assessment & Prescribing Clinic
Waiheke Medical Centre now offers a multidisciplinary ADHD assessment and treatment service for adults aged 18 and over, delivered in partnership with Piritahi Hau Ora.
This service is designed for people who are experiencing ADHD traits and would like a thorough, supportive assessment. Our aim is to provide clear guidance, practical support, and appropriate treatment planning where needed.
How the ADHD pathway works
The ADHD pathway includes an initial referral appointment, followed by two main assessment stages. Some people may also need additional medical checks before or during the process.
Step 1: Referral to the ADHD pathway
Appointment length: 15 to 20 minutes
Cost: Standard consultation fee
To begin, please book an appointment with your GP or Nurse Practitioner at Waiheke Medical Centre.
During this appointment, your clinician will:
Assess whether the ADHD pathway is suitable for you
Provide the questionnaires and documentation you need to complete before your assessment
Explain the next steps in the process
Additional medical checks, if required
Some people may need additional medical checks before progressing through the pathway. These will be requested by your clinician if needed and are charged at standard clinic rates.
These checks are usually completed by a Primary Care Assistant and may include an ECG if you:
Have a history of heart disease
Have a first-degree relative with sudden cardiac death
Are over 45 years of age
Stage 1: Comprehensive ADHD assessment
Appointment length: 60 minutes
Cost: $600, paid in full before booking
Once your referral is accepted, you will meet with our ADHD assessment clinician.
This appointment includes:
A review of your completed questionnaires
Support to complete any outstanding forms, if needed
A detailed discussion about your medical and personal history
Exploration of your symptoms, experiences, and how these may be affecting your daily life
Please bring any school reports you have. Even older reports can provide helpful insights as part of the assessment.
Stage 2: Diagnosis and treatment planning
Appointment length: 60 minutes
Cost: $600, paid in full before booking
During this appointment, your clinician will discuss the outcome of your assessment with you.
This may include:
Whether ADHD has or has not been diagnosed
What your results mean
Treatment options, if appropriate
A personalised plan to support your ongoing care
A further follow-up appointment may be recommended if more time is needed to discuss your care or treatment options.
Follow-up support
Cost: Free, if required
If required, you will also be offered a free session with our Health Coach.
